LEDUC, ALBERTA.  Construction is underway on two duplexes in the city of Leduc and, as a result, four families will become homeowners by the end of the year. Habitat for Humanity, the Government of Alberta, the City of Leduc, Qualico, and Pacesetter Homes joined together to bring the affordable home ownership project to pass. The homes are under construction in Leduc’s Meadowview community, and eligible families are encouraged to apply for a life-changing home ownership opportunity.

“Habitat for Humanity brings communities together to provide affordable homeownership, and we do this through strategic partnerships,” said Dr. Ann-Marie Reddy, President and CEO, Habitat for Humanity Edmonton. “Habitat and our partners are building homes that will be more than just a place to live. We are building homes to provide much needed stability and independence for parents and children. Thank you to our partners for your forward-thinking and commitment to provide affordable home ownership to families.”

The Government of Alberta has been a strong supporter of Habitat for Humanity since 2005, and has made it possible for many Albertans to access affordable home ownership through Habitat for Humanity. They have provided $400,000 in funding for these four homes that will benefit Albertans for decades to come.

“Alberta’s government is proud to support the Habitat for Humanity project in Leduc, which not only provides affordable homes, but also creates jobs for people in the region,” said the Honourable Josephine Pon, Minister of Seniors and Housing. “This project is as an excellent example of teamwork where non-profit and private sectors, and multiple orders of government are working together to make a difference.”

Habitat is honored to have a strong partnership with the City of Leduc, who has donated the land for the project. Habitat is pleased that the mayor and council see the value of affordable housing and are committed to making it available to their citizens.

“Building community has been council’s primary mission for the last three years, so partnering on this project to provide affordable housing options to Leduc families is a very natural fit,” said Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “Creating pathways to home ownership will make a real difference in people’s lives, and we are so pleased to partner with Habitat for Humanity, Qualico, and Pacesetter Homes to make this a reality in our community.”

“Pacesetter Homes is grateful to give back to the community of Leduc by helping four families in such a meaningful way,” said Sandra Young, VP of Pacesetter Homes Edmonton. “By collaborating with community leaders like Habitat for Humanity, and building partnerships with the intention of being accessible and inclusive, we are helping more people achieve their goal of home ownership.”

Families interested in owning an affordable home through Habitat are encouraged to visit HFH.org for more details and to start the application process.
