our new kitchen salvage program offers a sustainable solution for your next kitchen renovation project! instead of discarding your kitchen items, donate them to the Habitat ReStore — we’ll even pick up your donation for free. 

and the best part? you get a charitable tax receipt in exchange for your qualified donation! 

accepted kitchen salvage items include cabinets, appliances, countertops, and more! for a full list of acceptable donations, read below. 

items ReStore accepts for donation:

Appliances

  • Kitchen and laundry
  • Small kitchen appliances

Cabinets, Cabinet Sets, and Countertops

  • Quality cabinets – no damage with all doors and drawers attached.
  • Cabinet doors (like new with pulls or handles)
  • Granite and hard surfaces: 17 sq. ft. or less. 

Doors

  • Residential pre-hung and slab (interior/exterior) in good condition
  • Bi-fold, bypass doors (complete with all pins)
  • New Shower Doors (must be securely wrapped in cardboard)

Fasteners and Hardware

  • All varieties of metal fasteners and hardware
  • Door knobs and hardware
  • Hinges
  • Cabinet pulls and knobs
  • Gate hardware

Flooring

  • New carpet over 100 sq. ft. 
  • New and unopened hard surface flooring
  • New area rugs
  • New tile (10 sq. ft. or more)
  • New underlayment
  • New, unopened mortar and grout

Furniture

  • Clean, complete, undamaged furniture (from pet free and smoke free homes)
  • Solid wood
  • Patio outdoor
  • Side boards

Home Goods

  • Decor items including vases, holiday decorations, accents, art, antiques, framed mirrors, etc. 
  • Books
  • Pictures/art work

Safety Apparel and Equipment

  • New and used high visibility vests
  • New hard hats and safety glasses
  • New safety supplies

HVAC

  • Residential ducting, flashing, vents, fireplace inserts, new furnaces, new air conditioners, wood stoves
  • New fireplaces
  • Used electric fireplaces

Lawn and Garden

  • Bricks, blocks, and pavers (drop off only)
  • Tools and lawn equipment
  • Lawn and patio furniture
  • Barbecues (clean, 10 years old and newer in usable condition)

Lighting and Electrical

  • Residential indoor and outdoor light fixtures
  • New lightbulbs in original packaging
  • Electrical light switch plates and switch covers (no bone)
  • Electrical supply and wire (must be to current code)
  • New-in-box surface mount fluorescent lighting
  • New-in-box recessed lighting
  • New and used portable and window mount air conditioners

Lumber and Building Materials

  • De-nailed quality lumber and siding in 4′ lengths or larger
  • Sheet goods (plywood, MDF, drywall, etc) 1/4″ sheets or larger
  • New and clean insulation in clear bags
  • New and used ceiling tiles (not cut, undamaged, and from a smoke-free home)
  • New baseboard, trim, and casing
  • New and used chain link fencing and hardware
  • Snow fence and chicken wire

Plumbing

  • White, steel, porcelain, cast-iron, composite or granite sinks
  • New toilets
  • Bathroom cabinets, fixtures, and hardware
  • New fibreglass tubs
  • Clawfoot tubs
  • New hot water tanks

Roofing

  • New roofing, shingles, and tar paper
  • New and used corrugated roofing

Tools and Equipment

  • Hand tools
  • Power tools with battery and charger

Windows

  • Clean residential PVC and wood windows
  • Shutters in good condition
  • New, cordless blinds
  • Undamaged screens and inserts

Unique and Specialty Items (upon inspection):

  • Pianos
  • Dining room sets (table, chairs, buffet, and hutch)
  • Hospital beds and healthcare items
  • Brand new pet supplies and pens
  • Tires (50% of tread or more left; set of 4 identical)
  • Vehicles
  • Gas appliances
  • Bicycles
  • Fitness equipment (5 years or newer)

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept every donation. Even though your intended donation may be in perfect condition, and although we would love to accept it, sometimes we are unable to accommodate certain donations. It is best to call ahead or to fill out our Donation Pick Up Form.

Appliances         

  • Appliances 16 years or older
  • Dishwashers
  • Microwaves 5 years or older

Cabinets, Cabinet Sets, and Countertops             

  • Mouldy or water damaged cabinets
  • Incomplete Cabinets (missing doors or drawers)
  • Granite over 17 square feet in length

Doors   

  • Mirrored or metal bi-fold or bypass doors
  • Used shower doors
  • Commercial doors without frame

Fasteners and Hardware             

  • Rusted screws, nails, nuts and bolts

Flooring

  • Used or stained carpet and area rugs
  • Used/ previously installed hard surface flooring
  • Used tile

Furniture            

  • Damaged furniture
  • Mattresses, box springs, futons, hide-a-beds, sleeper sofas, water beds, water bed frames
  • Office furniture
  • Wall units, entertainment stands, china cabinets
  • Organs
  • Baby furniture

Home Goods    

  • Used linens, towels, draperies, and clothing
  • Electronics – Recycling available at all Edmonton ReStores.
  • National geographic, explicit material, text books, encyclopedias, magazines
  • Children’s toys
  • Soft goods including clothing and footwear

Safety Apparel and Equipment

  • Used/Expired hard hats, bike helmets, safety equipment
  • Used harnesses, gloves, glasses, masks, face-coverings

HVAC   

  • Items containing asbestos , mercury, or other toxins
  • Oil furnaces
  • Used furnaces
  • Used air conditioners

Lawn and Garden           

  • Broken or non-working items
  • Flammable or combustible chemicals, herbicides, pesticides, paint and stain

Lighting and Electrical   

  • Used brass plated light fixtures

  • Used blinds, new or used corded blinds, or window treatments
