Every year, Sharleen Thomas from Where My Love Grows selects one incredible woman in Leduc County for a heartfelt tradition: a Mother’s Day Makeover. It is a way to celebrate and uplift a local mom, mom-to-be, or bonus mom with a surprise home transformation. This year, we were honoured to join in and support her efforts! We provided Sharleen with ReStore gift certificates to help her source furniture, décor, and materials for the makeover. With ReStore locations across the Edmonton area, she was able to shop for affordable finds that just needed a little love to shine.
Meet Leanne Wurban, the 2025 Makeover Recipient
Leanne’s story is one of unwavering resilience. She and her husband Derek spent years searching for the perfect acreage, raising their daughter Hailey and working hard to build a life they loved. But a surgery in 2021 changed Leanne’s ability to work, and what followed was a string of medical and personal challenges that would test even the strongest among us.
Hailey, born in 2016, faced her own health journey early on, including surgery for a tumour at age three. Then, in what should have been a joyful 2023 celebrating a new baby on the way and their tenth wedding anniversary, disaster struck. A severe hailstorm damaged their home, car, and trailer. Soon after, a burst pipe flooded their house just as Leanne entered her third trimester. Forced to leave, the family spent more than a year living in a small trailer on their property.
In the middle of winter. With a newborn.
Frozen water lines, construction delays, propane shortages, and multiple health setbacks did not break her spirit. Through it all, Leanne kept showing up for her family. She is the kind of person who holds everything together, even when everything feels like it is falling apart.
In February, they finally returned to their home. But Leanne’s biggest wish was simple: a space where her daughter could finally invite friends over. A home that felt safe, warm, and welcoming again.
Bringing It All Together
Using ReStore finds and a lot of heart, Sharleen gave Leanne’s space a much-deserved refresh. Items that might have otherwise been overlooked were repurposed into something beautiful, showing that you do not need a big budget to create a space full of warmth, personality, and comfort.
We are proud to have played a small role in this project, and we are grateful for people like Sharleen who use their talents to give back in such meaningful ways.
