We’re proud to partner with the Government of Canada to create affordable homeownership opportunities for Black Canadians under the Black Families Initiative. In partnership with Averton and funded through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), these four homes are currently under construction and will be ready by Spring 2025.
Why is this program only for Black Canadians?
The Government of Canada’s research has shown that while 68% of Canadians own their home, only 40% of Black Canadians have the same opportunity — this group has the lowest homeownership rate in Canada. This program is part of a national effort to address this disparity.
The funding for this initiative is IN ADDITION to our existing homeownership program and does not compromise our ability to continue building homes for other eligible, non-Black families in Canada.
As a charity, our mission is to empower individuals and families through affordable homeownership in as many ways as we can, and this initiative helps us further that goal. Learn more and apply today.
