empowerment

Home ownership can result in powerful positive change. Habitat homeowners are proud of their achievements, and often seek to make positive change within their own lives. This can mean generational change and a focus on a bright future.

Committing to 500 volunteer hours encourages Habitat homeowners to become involved in their community.

improves outlooks

A Boston Consulting Group study has shown that homeownership results in a number of life improvements. Owning a home provides better educational outlooks to family members. This study saw higher achievements in school and a decrease in behavioural problems. Homeownership also saw improvements in health. Less income going to rent provides more income for health and wellness. Finally, many Habitat homeowners enjoy improved employment stability, thanks to safe and stable home.

building strength, stability and independence

Habitat for Humanity Edmonton believes that with a little help, we all have the potential to stand on our own. Our affordable home ownership program doesn’t just provide a home, it offers every homeowner an opportunity. Here’s how your support impacts Habitat homeowners.

builds skills and confidence

Owning a home is an opportunity to learn new skills and gain confidence. Habitat homeowners experience many skill building opportunities through volunteering at ReStore, on build sites, or in our offices.

Owning a home also increases confidence. Many Habitat homeowners are confident knowing they can navigate purchasing and managing a home, thanks to support from Habitat for Humanity.

A safe and stable home also offers children the chance to build skills. This can include cooking, developing artistic skills, and more.

helps invest in their future

Owning a home offers the opportunity to invest in your future. Every mortgage payment builds homeowner equity. If a Habitat homeowner chooses to sell their home back to Habitat, they take their equity onto new life goals, such as a home on the open market.
