By taking small steps today, you can make a big change by moving into your own home and moving forward to pursue your dreams and a sense of belonging! To make dreams a reality, we work directly with all levels of government and community partners to ensure our offerings are adding sustainable solutions to Alberta’s affordable housing conversation, and not just band-aids on a complex issue. We saw a need in our communities to promote affordable homeownership opportunities as prices continue to rise due to inflation. The Habitat program involves community leaders and volunteers in building quality homes for eligible families and individuals. Once you have been approved, our team works with you to find the best home for your needs. When you are ready to move forward, our buyback program allows you to sell your Habitat home while creating a new opportunity for the next Habitat homeowners to start their journey.

What makes the Habitat Homeownership program unique?
If you have not qualified for a traditional mortgage or have struggled to save for a down payment in the past, don’t give up!
- Habitat homes do not require a down payment, and we prepare you to be a successful homeowner
- Your mortgage is split in half. You pay the first mortgage over the first 20 years and the second mortgage after that. This ensures your monthly payments are affordable.
- Each month, you build equity. If the market value of your Habitat home increases, you also have a share in the increased equity
- You have more control over your money compared to renting
- You are part of a diverse community through volunteering with Habitat for Humanity Edmonton
- You can build relationships with your neighbours and grow into who you want to become in your community
