Volunteer Opportunities
"I've never done construction, so I really wouldn't be any help."
This type of statement is common but is far from the truth! New construction volunteers participate all the time at Habitat for Humanity! Most inexperienced volunteers leave our build sites amazed at what they have accomplished with no formal training.
We have all the personal protective equipment you need: hard hats, CSA-approved footwear, safety glasses and work gloves. You are welcome to bring your own safety equipment if you choose; only CSA-approved footwear is allowed on site.
Construction Volunteers
No two volunteering days are the same on our build sites. One day you might be framing, and another you might be installing drywall, building a deck, insulating or even painting. Although the days do vary, the one thing that they all have in common is the end result: you leave feeling satisfied. You've built hope for a deserving family, and you actually see the results of your work.
Crew Leaders
Do you have strong construction skills and good people skills? The crew leader position might be just for you! Crew leaders empower groups of construction volunteers to complete the task at hand. Crew leaders will carry a general knowledge of construction, people skills, and organizational skills in their tool belt. Talk to us if you're interested in this role. Training is provided.
Build Site Hosts
Would you prefer a non-construction role? Are you comfortable with meeting new people and navigating a build site? Do you like to laugh, and assist others? Being a build site host might be the perfect fit for you!
What exactly will I be doing as a Build Site Host?
You will greet and help volunteers feel welcome on the build site. You will oversee the registration table, help volunteers to find their safety equipment, make coffee and keep the lunch trailer, safety equipment room and our tool trucks organized and clean.
Being a Build Site Host is rewarding and fun! It is a half-day shift (8:30 AM to 1:00 PM). We ask for a commitment of at least one day per week (Tuesday to Friday).
